Gheorghe Dima (1847-1925)
Brasov, old city dated since XIII century, the city of the first romanian printed books, the city of the first romanian newspaper, the city where the romanian national anthem is born, of Coresi, Baritiu, of Muresianu's dinasty represents an important economical and cultural space.
Romanian came here from the Danube lands, settled in Schei from where they soustained permanent economic and culturel bounds with their home lands.
In this space arrives from Buzau sides the merchant Gheorghe Dima who together with Paula Paun from Schei, founds the remarcable Dima's family. Their four children filled their home with joy, but only Nicolae Dima (1786-1852) settles as a merchant in Schei of Brasov. He marries Zoe Voinescu descendant of a healthy family of romanian merchants. From her mother side Zoe belonged to the very important family of Ciurcu her mother being related to Sevastia Nicolau, the Jacob Muresianu's wife.Nicolae and Zoe were blessed with four suns: Pantelimon, Manase, Nicolae and Gheorge, the futur musician.The youngest of suns, Gheorghe Dima is born in the parents home in Schei at 28 of September 1847. Since he was a little child he loses his father, and it was his mother who provided for his education and that of his brothers. He remembered his mother grand- parents with great affection. After graduating the high school in Vienne he thinks in order to have a carrier without matterial worries to study Politechnic in Karlsruhe. But the voice of his soul was stonger. He gives up his technical instruction and he starts musical studies. He follows canto in Baden with Heinrich Giehne, in Vienne with Otto Ufmann and in Graz he continues his armony and contrapoint studies. Between 1872-1874 he is student at the Leiptig Conservatory. His beautiful voice makes impression in the concerts that he soustained as a concertist as well in the plays where he performed in Klagenfurt and Zurich(1873-1874). Despise the success he enjoyed, he came back home called by the same mysterious voice of his hart, where his creation sacrifice was needed.
In the automn of 1874 Gh. Dima retournes in Brasov where he becomes music teacher at the Romanian Central Schools and he takes over the leaderschip of Romanian Reunion of Songs and Gymnastic. In 1875 he marries Maria Florian, descendent of Ciurcu's family. In within three years of their marriage he lives a terrible family drama. His little children, Leonora and George die. Shortly after that, Maria, his wife dies too. Profoundly choched by his tragical faith he decides to leave Brasov. |
